Concept Smoke Systems Proud to Support Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s New Training Facility at Whitley Wood

Reading, UK – Concept Smoke Systems is proud to have partnered with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) in the redevelopment of their flagship training centre in Whitley Wood, Reading — a cutting-edge facility unveiled in July 2025 following a major £1.9 million refurbishment.

The new centre is designed to equip firefighters with the skills, resilience, and situational awareness needed to respond to modern-day emergencies. Among its most vital training tools? Realistic smoke simulation.

RBFRS logoConcept Smoke Systems has a long-standing relationship with RBFRS, dating back over three decades. For more than 30 years, the original Whitley Wood facility relied on Concept’s smoke generation equipment to simulate low-visibility fire conditions in a safe, repeatable way — making it an essential part of the service’s hands-on training approach.

So, when the time came to modernise the facility, RBFRS turned to a familiar name.

“We’ve always been proud of our relationship with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue, especially given how local they are to our factory” said Andrew Dunnington, Operations Director at Concept Smoke Systems. “Their team is committed to excellence, and we were honoured to be trusted once again to supply reliable, high-performance smoke systems for the upgraded training centre.”

For fire services like RBFRS, that realism is critical.  The new Whitley Wood training facility is designed to prepare firefighters for evolving threats — from house fires and vehicle rescues to large-scale industrial incidents.

Concept’s systems provide the flexibility and reliability needed to support such diverse and demanding training environments.

At Concept Smoke Systems, supporting the UK’s fire and rescue services isn’t just about supplying machines — it’s about enabling safer training, smarter responses, and better outcomes. The collaboration with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service at Whitley Wood is a testament to the power of long-term partnerships built on reliability, innovation, and trust.

As the fire service continues to raise the bar for training excellence, Concept remains proud to be part of the journey.
