Vulcan Smoke Generator featured on 7News Australia

Concept’s Vulcan high-output smoke generator played a key role in a series of hot smoke tests conducted in November 2024 as part of the development of Melbourne’s new Metro Tunnel project.

The tests, carried out by CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, were designed to assess airflows, smoke behaviour, and emergency response scenarios within the new underground network. Hot smoke testing is a critical part of major infrastructure commissioning: the smoke must remain visible at high temperatures, withstand thermal buoyancy, and behave consistently for extended periods so engineers and safety teams can monitor conditions accurately.

Footage of the Vulcan in action was featured on 7News Australia, where its exceptionally high output and temperature resistant, persistent smoke were seen filling large station voids and tunnel spaces with ease. For applications of this scale, smoke density, stability, and controllability are essential and the Vulcan demonstrated all.

Concept is proud to see our technology supporting a project of such national significance.
