The exhibition has a history stretching back more than 70 years. Its modern story began in Essen in 1953 with “Der Rote Hahn”, or “The Red Rooster”, which attracted 232 exhibitors and around 75,000 visitors. The INTERSCHUTZ name was first used at the following edition in Cologne in 1961, as the event’s scope extended across fire protection, radiation protection and disaster control.
From those beginnings, it developed into an international meeting point for the wider emergency services sector.
