Concept Smoke Systems at LDI Las Vegas
Concept Smoke Systems joined the international entertainment technology community in Las Vegas for LDI, an opportunity to connect with customers, catch up with our US partners and explore the latest developments in live production. And with an exhibition hall full of smoke and haze, we certainly felt at home.
LDI (Live Design International) brings together the people and technology behind concerts, theatre, festivals, themed attractions and live events. Lighting, sound, video, staging and special effects all feature, with working demonstrations giving visitors the chance to see equipment in action. Alongside the exhibition, a programme of professional training and conference sessions helps designers, technicians and production teams develop their skills and exchange ideas. First held in Dallas in 1988, LDI began with around 100 exhibiting companies and 3,000 attendees. Over the following decades, it developed into a major international meeting point for the live entertainment industry, reflecting the growing ambition and technical complexity of modern productions. For Concept, the show provides a valuable opportunity to spend time with existing customers, meet potential new customers and strengthen relationships with our partners in the United States. Bringing so much of the industry together in one place makes it possible to have the face to face conversations that are often difficult to arrange across busy schedules and different time zones.
It is also an excellent setting to discuss what customers need from smoke and haze equipment. From a subtle atmosphere that reveals lighting beams to a dense smoke effect that transforms a stage, the finished result depends on more than output alone. Consistency, controllability, persistence and practical day-to-day operation all influence how successfully an effect works within a production.
Seeing the latest lighting technology in action reinforces just how closely lighting and atmospheric effects work together. Carefully controlled haze gives beams definition and depth, helping designers create the striking looks that audiences associate with live entertainment.
The exhibition hall was certainly not short of atmosphere. In fact, the smoke was not entirely confined to the inside, as our photograph of smoke billowing outside the building shows. For a company specialising in smoke generators, it was a rather fitting welcome.
