Report by Stuart Leithes ITV News
A new firefighting training facility has opened near Cambridge - which gives the service more space to simulate a range of emergencies.
The site at Milton includes a building which can be filled with smoke - giving fire fighters the chance to practice rescues in realistic conditions.
The interviewees stress how useful artificial smoke is as a training aid. The entire building can be smoked logged by just one smoke generator giving the perfect training conditions for BA (Breathing Apparatus), PPV (Positive Pressure Ventilation).
The smoke gives firefighters experience in dealing with unfamiliar conditions and low visibility.
An extract from the interview "Training is the fundamental importance of a fire service, obviously it forms a large part of our day to day work, it is important that are crews are confident in what they do, and in order to do that they need to regularly train in good facilities and good equipment"
