Concept exhibited at the 4th International Symposium on Tunnel Safety and Security (ISTSS) held in Frankfurt am Main (Frankfurt's Fire HQ) in March this year.
Organised by SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden, the symposium is now an annual event and attracts delegates from around the world. The main focus has traditionally been on fires and safety in tunnels but, more recently, the threat of terrorist attacks has also been highlighted.
During the exhibition, Concept staged a live demonstration of its ViCount smoke system which is used extensively in PPV exercises or impulse ventilation testing (road tunnels, etc). Unlike water based artificial smoke, ViCount smoke does not evaporate in fast moving airstreams and the resulting smoke travel can be measured in terms of miles/kilometres in a confined tunnel environment.
