The oil mist media is stored in the OMG in a heated pressure tank, the temperature of which can be controlled to ensure a consistent and appropriate oil viscosity. Temperature control of the reservoir is via it's own PID microprocessor controller, allowing independent control from ambient to 70°C.
The heat exchanger within the OMG is controlled by a second programmable microprocessor controller, the parameters of which can be adjusted to suit the specific physical properties of the oil in question. The high watt density cartridge heaters within the heat exchanger are controlled via a solid state relay, which proportionally bursts power to the heat exchanger to maintain optimum response time with minimum overshoot.
Oil mist can be produced above a minimum temperature alarm value, which can also be adjusted to suit the physical properties of the test oil. Once this state is achieved, oil mist is produced by pressurising the integral oil tank with an inert carrier gas.
A mixture of oil and inert gas is then passed through the precision, machine heat exchanger chamber. The oil is vapourised, and the resulting vapour condenses on exiting the heat exchanger to form a dense, controllable oil mist / fog.
As with all of Concept's mains powered smoke systems, a class leading warranty is provided.
The precision machined heat exchanger has a self purge system that initiates automatically after every operation, meaning that virtually no residue is left in the heat exchanger to carbon which would eventually lead to a blockage within the chamber.
The picture opposite shows the heated fluid reservoir that comes as standard with the Concept Oil Mist Generator.
Oil mist from the OMG can be passed through flexible ducting if required using optional ducting adaptors ( 25mm, 50mm and 75mm available), or alternatively an extended nozzle can be fitted to allow entry into a pressurised system.
Concept Smoke Oil mist has been extensively tested by independent bodies, including the Health and Safety Executive to ensure that it is non toxic and non flammable, Copies of the Health and Safety Data Pack are available on request. However, risk assessments should be carried out prior to the use of other "oils types" through the OMG.

The resulting report noted:
"With the visual aid of white smoke emitting from leakage areas, this was a quick and easy task to accomplish (< 10 minutes)."
It went onto conclude:
"Use of smoke as a means by which to detect cabin pressurization leaks has been shown to be extremely effective and is unquestionably superior to any alternative detection method used to date."
